This selection is a childhood photograph of two sisters with their grandfather. In the original image, the figure of the grandfather proved to be rather distracting, taking focus away from the girls. In addition, the flash from the camera, although it illuminated the grandfather quite well, ended up washing out the faces of the lefthand girl. Both of these are corrected in the edited photograph. In addition to the slight color correction, I also made some constrast correction, making the picture seem less "washed out".
This photo alteration presented several difficulties, the vast majority of which I was able to overcome. The removal of the grandfather proved to be difficult, especially in the area where there were shelves behind him. The lower portions of his body such as his arm and pant leg were simple to take out, even though I did have to remove the chair he was sitting on as well (just to the left of his arm).
The recreation of the bookshelves behind the grandfather were, by far, the most difficult area. This was because I not only had to recreate the shelves themselves, but also continue the books and other documents that were on them.

The new (blurry) shelves
Because the photo focuses on the two girls up front, the contents of the shelves are blurred and difficult to make out. This is actually both good and bad. It is a benefit, because my alterations will be less apparent since I can blend the colors together and blur out any jagged details left over from my edits. However, this benefit also has a downfall, for it is difficult to figure out what those indiscriminate objects are, and thus hard to replicate them accurately on the new expanses of shelves I am creating.
