My Typewriter
The typewriter I am using for this guide is an Underwood Model #5 from 1908. The reason I chose this particular model was simply that it was the one I had. I have had this typewriter for over ten years, and it is the only one I have been experimenting with. I am sure that other models and yearly productions of Underwood are slightly different from this guide. They may have additional parts, or parts may be in different locations on the typewriter. Thus, if you are using this guide to dissasemble a newer Underwood, your experience may differ.Naming Conventions
I have no idea what most of the stuff inside a typewriter is actually called. Most of the names I have given the parts in this guide are my own creation. I have consulted another Underwood Typewriter Page, which has some names of the typewriter parts. However, for most of these I am inventing names on the spot.
