Typewriter Repair - Things You Need
When I first began to take apart my typewriter, I had absolutely no idea what tools I needed to accomplish this. It has all been trial and error. Below are the things I have found essential:

1: A big table - When you take apart your typewriter, you need a place to put all the parts. And there will be many of them. I would prefer a large table covered with towels or a large cloth. The cloth will be invaluable when you drop a screw or bolt. The screw will catch on the cloth instead of hitting the hard surface of the table and bouncing off to some undiscovered corner of the room.

2: Small containers to keep the small parts - Disassembly of a typewriter produces a myriad amount of screws, bolts, and other extremely small parts that you do not ever want to lose. I prefer plastic bottle caps (see picture), as these hold several screws and can be easily placed next to the item the screws came out of. Plus this way, I can keep all the screws from each section of the typewriter separated, which is of indescribable help when putting the thing back together.

3: Flathead Screwdrivers - Nice ones, preferably, and in several sizes. Most of the screwdrivers you look at will need to have a very thin, strong head. You will also need a larger flathead screwdriver to loosen the larger bolts holding the carriage on.

4: Additional Items as I remember them...

Once you have the tools needed for this project, we can start the disassembly.
