Comic Appearance Statistics for Anole
Victor with Freak Arm
Victor and his freak arm
These statistics are current as of Young X-Men issue #9 (January 5th, 2009). I will attempt to update this listing as any new appearances of Victor come to my attention.

Contents:

Statistics regarding the comic appearances were compiled through a search of the series New Mutants (2003), and New X-Men (2004). Additionally, I searched through issues of other comic book series where I had previous confirmations of his appearance (X-Men, Astonishing X-Men). When listing the appearances of Victor within my article, I did not include any of the series besides New Mutants and New X-Men, nor did I include any of the handbook-style entries which have included him (New X-Men Yearbook Special and X-Men: the 198 Files). I have, however, included those totals within the tables below.

When deciding what constituted an appearance, I settled on any portrayal of Victor which was clearly his character, seen from unique physical appearance, dialogue, or surrounding panels which identify him. Since the X-Men comics did have several green background characters, an indistinct green blob in the background would not be enough to constitute an "appearance". Any indistinct panels where the character may or may not be Victor are detailed below as textual notes underneath the tables. Complete statistical information of Victor's appearances are below.

Appearances in New Mutants (2003-2004)

#41 11 panels 92 words
#42 9 panels 48 words
#43 9 panels 7 words
#44 13 panels 75 words
#46 4 panels 9 words
Totals:
26 issues 154 panels 857 words

Note on Issue #25: In this issue, there is one ambiguous panel where Victor is present among several other students. There is a dialogue bubble here, but it is unclear if it is either Victor speaking, or another student Hisako. However, due to the fact that Hisako already has dialogue in a previous panel, as well as Victor's location in the back, I am listing this dialogue as belonging to Hisako, and thus placing Victor as having no dialogue in this issue.

Note on Issue #34: In this issue, there is a scene where the character Rockslide is discussing the Young Avengers with Victor and another character Alani. In this scene there is one panel with two dialogue bubbles coming from "offscreen". While the first certainly belongs to Rockslide, it is unclear if the second one: "Gee, I don't know, 'Rockslide'." is from Victor or Alani. While this is most likely meant to be from Victor, the ambiguity prevents me from counting these five words in my above statistics.

Appearances in Young X-Men (2008-current)
Issue # Number of Panels Words of Dialogue
#6 (Detailed Stats) 6 panels 275 words
#7 (Detailed Stats) 16 panels 122 words
#8 (Detailed Stats) 26 panels 170 words
#9 (Detailed Stats) 16 panels 82 words
Totals:

Appearances within Other X-Men Comics
Series and Issue # Number of Panels Words of Dialogue
Astonishing X-Men #13 3 panels 0
Astonishing X-Men #18 1 panel 0
X-Men #165 1 panel
(see note below)
0
X-Men #190 4 panels 46 words
X-Men #192 4 panels 17 words
X-Men #201 2 panels 0
X-Men #202 9 panels 0
X-Men #205 8 panels 10 words
X-Men #207 8 panels 0 words
X-Men: Divided We Stand #1 30 panels
(see note below)
602 words
(see note below)
X-Men: Manifest Destiny 3 panels 34 words
X-Men: Messiah Complex 1 panel 5 words

Note on X-Men #165: In this issue, there is one panel with a green student facing away from the reader. This green character is rather ambigous. However, there is a carapace on the student's head, much like Victor has. Even though there are no spikes on the carapace, I am led to believe that this was an artistic oversight that that this student is meant to be Victor.

Notes on Divided We Stand #1: Victor's panel and dialogue count are very high for this issue, much more so than any other issue he has appeared in. This is because Victor has an eight page story focused on just him in this issue.
When counting panels Victor appears in, I also counted the two panels that he appears in from Nehzno's story and added these to the 28 panels from his own story. Additionally, Victor has voice-over boxes on many panels in which he does not actually appear; I did not count these towards his panel appearances.
When counting Victor's dialogue amounts, I did count his voice-over boxes. These boxes added a little over 200 words to his dialogue (speech bubble) count.

"Handbook" or Biographical Entries
Issue # of images (counted as panels)
New X-Men Yearbook Special 2 images
X-Men: the 198 Files 1 image
X-Men: Messiah Complex Mutant Files 2 images (see note below)

For statistical purposes, I count each individual image of Victor as a single panel with no dialogue. Thus, the handbook entries count as five panels with no dialogue in the totals below.

Note on Messiah Complex Mutant Files: In this handbook, images of Victor are seen in two sections: the Anole article, and the two-page New X-Men article. Victor is present in three total images, but one of the images in the New X-Men article is duplicated in the Anole article. Thus, while he is in a total of three images here, I only count the two unique images.
